On the Mend

Our 4 year old has been sick for two weeks with three different viruses. First he got a stomach bug which put him on the couch for two days and then he was good for a day (so I thought), just to wake up the next day to a different stomach bug. Poor guy is so tiny to begin with. He couldn't keep anything in. He didn't even feel like eating, this is when we know Caleb is sick. He is normally a good eater and will eat anything and everything. The fact that he wouldn't eat and that he didn't want to do anything but lay on the couch are sure signs that Caleb is really not feeling well. Once again he was ok for two days but at the end of the second day I heard one of the boys cough that sounded like a bark. I thought for sure it was Keagan but I went to check on them and it was Caleb. I chalked it up to be croup, since we're very familiar with that illness, and gave him his brothers puffer. I think it did help because I didn't hear another bark from him. He ended up with a very bad cold, high fevers, runny nose, you know the sort. He'd be not too bad when he got up in the morning and we would think 'great, he's getting better', but then by suppertime he'd have a fever and look awful. Another sign Caleb is actually sick is he has been napping all week! And I'm not talking a short nap, they've been anywhere from 2 - 4 hours long.
I can say that he is getting better, he hasn't had a fever for 48 hours and he is eating a bit better. He still has a cough but his nose has stopped running but he is still quite pale. At the end of all this he has lost some weight from lack of eating. So, he does still look ill because he is white and a bit thinner. Here's hoping this is the last of viruses in the house for awhile. I'm really not sure how the rest of us didn't get as sick as Caleb. Keagan did get a stomach bug but recovered quickly. Avery had a cold for a couple of weeks but didn't get really bad. I also had a sore throat for a couple of days this week and (knock on wood) I think I'm fighting it and will not get it very badly. My husband hasn't had any signs of these viruses. Thank goodness, who would bring home the money then!!
